Magnetically induced superresolution (MSR) has been proposed for high-density recording on magneto-optical disks without depending on short-wavelength laser diodes. We investigated the recording density limit in double-mask-type MSR using a 680-nm wave-length laser and a 0.55 NA. Ad a result, we found that the linear density in laser intensity modulation (LIM)recording is restricted by the recording power margin rather than by jitter. On the other hand, the recording power margin is greatly improved by magnetic field modulation (MFM) recording. We confirmed the practicality of the MSR disk at a minimum mark length of 0.2 μm (0.2 μm/bit). We also confirmed that 0.12μm marks were recorded by using MFM.
