In this paper, the characteristics of the PM stepping motor having an axially magnetized disk-rotor are reported. As compared with the conventional type of stepping motor having a radially magnetized cylindrical-rotor, the stepping motor with the disk-rotor as reported here is possible to have much more torque output. Among the factors affecting the characteristics, it is most important to control the geometrical precision in axial direction.
