This paper describes a new-type multi-functional quartz analogue watch named Cal. 8M. The Cal. 8M has been developed basing on the concept that the two hands are independently driven by respective motor, and that the time unit indicated by the hands changes according to the selected mode. This permits a very easy and simple operation. The two hands put on the same axis are driven forward and backward at a high speed so that the hands play a role of realizing many functions. The Cal. 8M is provided with a crown for selecting a mode and two push switches for controlling the hands. Up to 6 modes are available. The selected mode appears on the display screen by the mode display hand which links to the rotation of the crown. The Cal. 8M is a microcomputer-controlled analogue watch, and therefore, a wide variety of functions ranging from sports to business, such as alarm and triple times, are available only by changing the program stored in this microcomputer. This microcomputer is an one-chip and built-in type for use in analogue watches. A well known coaxial two-hand system used in this caliber has cleared the limits in design, and also has realized a versatile design flexibility which meets the users needs such as sports, business, and formal event.
