1. The present paper deals with the results of the writer's experiiment on physiologic specialization in Piricularia Oryzae BR. et CAV., the rice blast fungus. He carried out the present experiment in order to compare some cultural as well as the morhological characters of twenty three culture trains of the fungus. KONISHI, his colleague in the same laboratory, has recently published a paper on the results of his sudies on the same problem using the same culture strains and dicussed it from a different stand point. 2. The culture strains used were at first compared in the following four important characteristics, namely-the formation of the aerial hyphae, the degree of the sporulation, the coloration of the submerged mycelium in potato-decociton, agar (1% saccharose added) and the growth of the submerged mycelium in the three synthetic agar media differing only in the amount of glucose added. Considering the relative differences in these culture strains into fourteen different types. 3. The length and the width of the conidiaaproduced on the potato-decoction agar (1% saccharose added) by the eight types of the causal fungus consisted of the sixteen culture strains were compared. From the results of the measurement the writer waas not able to recognize any marked morphological differences among those eight types.
