Sports Physiol., Vol.8, No.2 pp.45-50, 2002. It was hypothesized that the time course of changes in plasma creatine kinase(CK) activity following eccentrie exercise was influenced by rhythmical muscle contractions performned after eccentric exercise. This study examined whether arm-cranking (AC) alters the time course of changes in plasma creatine kinase (CK) activity after eccentric exercise of the elbow flexors (ECC). Six male students performned two bouts of ECC separeted by 3 weeks, annd AC(25waits, 2-hours) was performed immediatcly after ECC for one arm (AC0 condition) and 72 hours after ECC for the other arm (AC72 condition). Plasma CK activity was measured before, immediately after, and 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48, 60, 72, 74, 84, 96, 108, 120 hours after ECC. Changes in CK and several markers of muscle damage were compared between the conditions by repeated measures ANOVA, and significance level was set at P<0.05. Changes in the markers and CK were not significantly differnt between the conditions, and CK peaked 84 hours after ECC in both conditions. CK activity did not change when AC was performed immediately after ECC, however AV increased the amount of CK release significantly (P<0.05) when it was performed 72 hours after ECC. These results suggest that AC does not influence the time course of changes in CK, but enhances CK appearance in the blood when it was already in the lymph flow.
