MIYAMOTO, S. and ISHIKO, T., Is the Female Body Composition Formula Based on Body Density and Body Fat Applicable to the Case of Weight Control?. Abv. Exerc. Sports Physiol., Vol.8, No.1 pp.5-8, 2002. The aim of this research was to discuss the validity of the body composition formula of females (16) under weight control conditions. Five female subjects aged 20-22 voluntarily participated in a six-month weight control program, which included both exercise practice and negative calorie balance food intake. The exercise program consisted of about an hour a week of sports pracice, plus aerobic session for 60-70 minutes at a frequency of four to siz times per weel; the negative calorie balance program reduced daily caloric intake to a level of 1800kcal/day. Height, body mass, fat mass, bone mineral content and lean tissue mass were measured before and after the weight control program, and the respective average values, standard deviations and percent changes were calculated. On average, the subjects lost 7.85kg of fat mass and gained both 0.03kg of bone mineral content and 1.93kg of lean tissue mass. From these data, it was determined that the subjects experienced an avarage reduction of 5.89kg "female obesity tissue." The density of this female formula was: % body fat=5.075/body density-4.604. In comparison, the formula of gemales was: % body fat=5.075/body density-4.604. Becouse significant relationship was found between these two formulas, it was concluded that the formula of females is applicable to weight control cases.
