Role of Rainwater in Agro-Economic Growth of India

India is a country of varigative climatic changes, which directly and indirectly influence the agricultural productions. The majority of cultivable land of India still seeks sufficient amount of rainfall to enhance the food production, which has strong bearings on the Indian economic growth. In the present study we analyze overall pattern of rainfall variation of India. Agricultural and food grains productions show a significant impact on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India, recording a negative growth of about 0.2% in 2000-2001. We conclude that sufficient and adequate rainfall in a year lead to achieve the targeted growth rate while the inadequate use and failure of sufficient rainfall causes stagnation. This is caused by reversal of monsoon, which severely affects the Indian economic growth due to retardation of her agro-economic growth. This study also sheds light on the fact that rainwater is a backbone of agro-economic growth for a developing country like India where vast cultivable land still needs to utilize rainwater resources efficiently by developing indigenous storage device for future. Such steps may help to revert the negative agricultural growth when the failure of monsoon in a particular year occurs.
