A factorial experiment was performed to determine the main effects and interactions of pH (pH 6.5 and 7.0) and temperature (35°and 37℃) on anaerobic digester responses. Conventional techniques could not detect the interaction effect on the methane content of the biogas when pH and temperature were changed simultaneously. This technique also indicated better operating conditions, at pH 7.0 and 37℃, for the methane production rate. The two-level factorial design used in this study is of great practical importance and can be used for rapid process improvements.
