A method for estimating and increasing the stability of artificial housing sites during an earthquake is presented. First, microtremor observations are carried out simultaneously on the cut and its fill at the housing site, then in the detailed investigation, boring and standard penetration tests are made at the site. If the N value obtained from the penetration test is smaller 5,an inclinometer and a pipe strain meter are installed to record variations in ground movement. When large variations in ground movement are recorded, steel pipe piles should be driven into the soil or concrete retaining walls constructed to stabilize the ground.
