The aim of this work is the treatment of orange wastes coming from agriculture activities or food industries. A set of batch alcohol fermentation of these residues has been done using different pretreatment operations devoted to process optimization, among which filtration appears to assure, at the same time, the best fermentation rates and energy savings. Further batch runs at different starting sugar levels confirm the presence of inhibiting saturation phenomena, due to increasing substrate concentrations, already known for other nutrients. The industrial feasibility of this treatment has been proved by the continuous fermentation of this waste in a fixed-bed immobilized cell reactor, which showed satisfactory productivity values.
