Production of cellulases and β-glucosidase was studied using locally-isolated Aspergillus niger on various cheap sources of cellulose like bagasse, corn corbs, computer cards and sawdust, by solid state fermentation (SSF) and by liquid state fermentation (LSF). Enzyme activities were increased about 30-80% by SSF in comparison with conventional LSF. Enzyme production was further improved by various pretreatments, making cellulosic material easily accessible. The best results were obtained with 5M NaOH treatment.
