This paper proposes an edge enhancement technique for comprehensible image synthesis. Since Comprehensibility Cannot be expressed through theoretical definitions, we must find the best enhancement technique by trial and error. The proposed method uses a depth image that can be easily obtained as a by-product of hidden surface removed. By applying differential operators and modification processes to the depth image, profi1es and internal edges are detected. This technique is used to separate enhancement processes based on artificial factors from calculations based on geometric or physical factors. It is therefore effective as a method of finding the best enhancement for each image by trial and error. It can also be used to enhance the edges of complicated curved surfaces or on reflected or refracted images.
