The modified Bessel function of the first kind, I_v(x), can be expanded in terms of I_(μ+2k)(x)(k=0, . . .) as [numerical formula] where [numerical formula]. This expansion is valid when p is not a negative integer. We can obtain an approximation to I_ν(x) for an arbitrary v by substituting approximations to I_(μ+2k)(x)(μ≧0) C0mputed by the recurrence technique into the truncated form of the above expansion. This paper describes the error analysis of this approximation and a useful estimate of the error.
