An Approximation for a Token Ring System with Priority Classes of Messages

This paper studies a token ring system with limited service where two priority classes of messages are offered at each station. In order to obtain performance measures, the system is regarded as a multiqueue model with the nonpreemptive priority. The virtual load probability density function (pdf) is derived using the diffusion approximation technique. By using a relationship between the virtual load and the waiting time, an approximate formula for the mean waiting time is obtained. The accuracy of the proposed approximation is evaluated by comparing it with simulation results.
