Plasticized needle punched polyester proved effective as a biofilm support material. A maximum film surface loading rate of 0.195kg COD m^<-2> d^<-1> (16.8 kg COD m^<-3> d^<-1>) and a methane production rate of up to 0.047 m^3 m^<-2> d^<-1> (4.0m^3 m^<-3> d^<-1>) were achieved within 32 days of inculation. "Cloisonyl" (PVC) was not as effective a film support material although physical roughening of the surface did improve its performance.
