Conditions for citric acid production using a mutant of Aspergillus niger 3/1 in unclarified cane molasses and bagasse by solid state fermentation have been standardized. In flask scale experiments, about 66-85% of the reducing sugars initially present are converted into citric acid in 5-6 days.
