Produciton of Aminoglycoside Antibiotics, (Sorbistin A_1 and Sorbistin B) by a New Isolate of Pseudomonad

A new strain of pseudomonad, isolated from a soil sample collected in Kyoto City, produced aminoglycoside antibiotics P-2563 (P) and (A), which were identical with sorbistin A_1 and B, respectively. Based on its morphological and physiological characteristics, strain P-2563 was identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens (miscellaneous strain), according to Bergey's Manual, 8th edition.Glucose and NZ-amine were the most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources for the growth and the antibiotics production. The growth, antibiotics production and the ratio of P-2563 (P) to (A) were considerably affected by the temperature and aeration-agitation conditions of the fermentation.
