Oxygen transfer mechanism in gluconic acid fermentation system has been studied in conventinal stirred tank fermentor. Response of aeration rate at individual stage of fermentation indicated that intermendiate stage between 3 to 9 hr influences most the product formation. Increase in oxygen uptake rate above critical dissolved oxygen concentration level is explained by assuming an additional shorter route for oxygen transfer, when cells are adsorbed on the bubble surface and thus decreasing over all resistance to oxygen transfer.
