A promising method for overcoming the diffraction limit for reading marks recorded in optical storage disks is the MAMMOS approach. In this paper some results of a computational investigation of the record and readout processes for a MAMMOS-type disk are presented. Strategies for improving written bit shape and regularity are suggested. The LP-MFM method is shown to be suitable for recording short marks with accurately located edges. A model for the readout process indicates that the domain copy process occurs quickly followed by domain expansion as the readout layer heats up.
