A comparative study was made of the metabolism of cardiac muscle of young and adult rats after the injection of pyrogen, using as indices the activities of succinate dehydrogenase and NADH_2-cytochrome C reductase. The results showed a tendency of tricarboxylic acid cycle enzyme activity in cardiac muscle of young rats to increase while, in contrast, a decrease was observed on older animals, following challenge with pyrogen.
