Studies on renal electrolyte metabolism in the old aged during resting condition or surgical operation have already been reported per cent during the low oxygen gas inhalation. However, there has been no report on the effects of low oxygen gas inhalation on the electrolyte metabolism in the old aged. The author studied the effect of low oxygen gas inhalation to the renal electrolyte metabolism in the healthy old aged without renal disease and discussed the response of renal electrolyte metabolism to the stress in the old aged. pressure lower than 149mmHg, accompanied Methods and Materials Method-Renal circulation and renal electrolytes were determined by the standard renal clearance test before and during low oxygen gas inhalation. The inhalation was performed by supplying 10 per cent O_2 for 25 min, according to the original method of LEVY. Sodium and potassium were determined by using flame photometer, Lange 11 type. diastolic pressure over 90mmHg (essential Materials-As control, healthy youths and adults (12 cases, average : 31 years old, 6 per-sons was loaded with low oxygen gas inhalation) and as subjects, the old ageds (44 cases), from 51 to 83 years old (average: 69.5 years old) in an almshouse, who have been affected no particular disease and were negative in albuminuria test, were investigated. Arterial blood pressure of the aged group was ranging from 100-210mm Hg in systolic, from 60-160 mmHg in diastolic phase, and PSP (15') was ranging from 5 to 42 per cent. Among those 23 aged subjects (average: 69 years old) were loaded with the low oxygen gas inhalation. Arterial blood oxygen saturation decreased to 61 per cent during the low oxygen gas inhalation.
