Hypotensive and in addition cardiac slowing action of a new imidazoline analog, ST-155, 2-(2,6-dichlorophenylamino)-2-imidazoline hydrochloride, has been investigated in normotensive and hypertensive rats. Hypotensive action of ST-1 55 appears more remarkably in both spontaneously and experimentally hypertensive rats than in normotensive ones, since supersensitivity of peripheral vascular smooth muscle does exist in hypertensive rats. Brady-cardiac action comes not only from decrease in central sympathetic outflow, but also from a certain type of vagal stimulation.
