Sixty-one cases of autopsied hearts of secondary myocardial disease were examined and following conclusion was obtained. 1. Ths site of inflammation was generally in interstitium. The myocarditis in acute stage accompanied severe cell infiltration and secondary myocardial degeneration and necrosis. But the infiltrated cell diminished over time, and the scattered patchy fibrosis with rich vascularization became remarkable. 2. The site of degeneration in the narrow sense was in parenchyma. In progressive muscular dystrophy, interstitial fibrosis and/or fatty infiltration appeared after or in parallel with the degeneration of the muscle fibers. Hepatogenic "Myokardose" and hyperthyroidism, which were classified as one of metabolic disorders, showed the myocardial degeneration and interstitial edema or fibrosis. 3. Degeneration in the wide sense which was characterized by abnormal material deposition was found in myxoedema, hemochromatosis and amyloidosis which belonged to metabolic disorders. The deposition was noticed in parenchyma and/or interstitium. In myxoedema and amyloidosis, it was also observed in the coronary arteries. 4. Collagen disease had both findings of inflammation and degeneration and carried vascular lesion with them, which complicated the pathological involvement.
