1. Cerebral blood flow and metabolism in young subjects with cerebrovascular disease was investigated by means of nitrous oxide method. 2. Cerebral blood flow and oxygen consumption was depressed and cerebrovascular resistance was elevated in young subjects with CVD, but these changes were less remarkable than those in older subjects with CVD. 3. The decrease of cerebral blood flow and oxygen consumption was maximum in the group of cerebral hemorrhage, medium in the groups of subarachnoideal bleeding and cerebral embolism, and minimum in the groups of carotid occlusion and cerebral thrombosis. 4. Once subarachnoideal bleeding occurred, cerebral blood flow decreased even in subjects with cerebral arterio-venous malformation, in which cerebral blood flow was known to be increased markedly. S. Cerebral circulatory disturbance in young patients with cerebrovascular disease was accelerated by hypertension. 6. In young subjects with cerebrovascular disease, elevation of mean arterial pressure to 100 mmHg accompanied an increased cerebral blood flow, but further rise of blood pressure resulted in a decline of cerebral blood flow. 7. In subjects with cerebrovascular disease, regardless with or without hypertension, cerebral blood flow gradually decreased with advancing age. 8. Cerebrovascular reactivity to hyperventilation and CO_2 inhalation in young subjects was better than that in older subjects.
