Subthreshold chest wall stimulation is useful in many way to analyse function of an implanted ventricular inhibited demand pacemaker. This method can be used for complete suppression of the pacemaker and to disclose patient's intrinsic rhythm. It allows us to follow up diseased conduction system, to analyse pacemaker indurced arrhythmia, to anticipate risk for the patient in pacing failure, to manage digitalis Intoxication, and to diagnose myocardial infarction. SCWS applied at random with relatively slow rate can be used to test for demand capability of the pacemaker. Refractory periods of the pacemaker are also measured by this technique.
