Many reports have been made public on cerebral blood flow and cerebral metabolism since methods of measuring cerebral blood flow were established, but systematic investigations on cerebral carbohydrate metabolism are few and especially those concerning the influence of hypoxemia are not found in the literature. The present investigation was designed with these problems in mind. Methods and Materials A total of 27 cases including healthy controls and patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, hypertension or cerebral arteriosclerosis were used. A catheter was introduced into the bulbus venae jugularis interna and the cerebral bood flow was determined by the N_2O method. The carbohydrates of the arterial and internal jugular venous bloods were determined. These determinations were done during a resting state and during hypoxemia induced by 10% O_2 inhalation for 20 minutes.
