If there was informed consent before prescription for Iressa, fewer patients would have died of this anti-cancer drug's adverse reaction. This is a mention as a critique of druginduced disaster. But is "informed consent" a procedure for preventing adverse reaction of drugs? Is preventing drug-induced disaster derived from essense of "informed consent"? Those are questions to discuss. Preventing drug-induced disaster or keeping safety of medicine is simply a colateral function of informed consent. By considering the intention of patient's getting a second opinion we can find that safety of medicine is matter of quality of knowledge, relationship of nonmaleficence and beneficence, profession system and so on. Ethical literacy is needed for medical profession. Not all medical problems relate to matter of informed consent. Ethics for preventing drug-induced disaster is not a medical profession code in doctor-patient relationship but one for preventing failure of knowledge in a public sphere.
