When potato tubers were cultured for 6 hours in solution containing HN_4-N & NO_3-N, the nitrogen was absorbed by them definitelly, so we examined the kinds of amino acids and amides both in potato tubers and in culture solution with the paper partition chromatographic method. (1) Potato tubers absorbed equally NH_4-N or NO_3-N from external solution at pH 7. (2) We found 20 kinds of amino acids and 2 kinds of amides in potato tubers. (3) Potato tubers were cultured at pH 4〜9 with solution containing NH_4-N or NO_3-N. The chromatograms of amino acids extracted from those tubers made not a great difference. (4) Amino acids and amides were found in external solution, too. Their amounts were minimum at pH 7 & 8 in NH_4-N culture and at pH 6 in NO_3-N culture, when estimated by their figure and colour density of the spots on chromatograms.
