For the purpose of acquiring skills in homemaking education, an attempt was made in such a way that each pupil could actively participate in the learning activities, and thus achieve the learning objectives through understanding of and mastering the content of teaching materials. The following three methods were used : critical thinking, discussion, and demonstrative techniques. The acquisition of skills can be achieved by the systematization of commonly practiced methods such as demonstrations and explanations. However, from the viewpoint of fostering the pupil's desirable. attitude toward learning and enhancing his interest in it, which are much required in homemaking education, it has been proved that both of the following methods are significantly useful : 1) pupils learn by thinking and doing by themselves, and 2) pupils learn through discussions in the process of the acquisition of skills.
