概要

• An intensive care unit for severely brain-damaged patients has been designed, in which a medical information system has been developed, including a central monitor and a general purpose digital computer system. The computer based central monitor room has been made close to the intensive care unit, EEG room and operation room for neurosurgery, from which total 60 signals have been possible to monitor and process information by on line or semi-on line.The intensive care unit has been consisted of a medical care unit of 5 beds for long term patients of impaired consciousness and neurosurgical care unit of 3 beds for short stay or postoperative patients. An another ward has been maed available for patients discharged from the medical care unit with such neurological deficits that needed a help to stay in a general ward. The introduced intensive care system has been called a Neurological Care Unit (NCU) in our hospital and reported with discussion in detail.
