A compact laser tracking system that is used for the calibration of coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs) is introduced in this paper. In this system, a half sphere is used as the tracing mirror, which is driven by a X-Y moving table. The performance of this system is checked by a high precision CMM. The experiment result shows that the displacement measuring error of this laser tracker is below 0.5 micrometer, which is much better than the previous type of laser tracker.
