Fretting fatigue tests were cariied out using a cast steel to investigate the effect of high contact pressure and with plasma spray coating between the specimen and the pad on fretting fatigue strength. The fretting fatigue strength was reduced to 60% of the plain fatigue strength under the stress ratio R=0.0. And using fracture mechanics models, a prediction method for fretting fatigue strength was assessed. The predicted fretting fatigue strength were in good agreement with the experimental results of fretting fatigue test. At the result, a slight reduction in fretting fatigue strength occurred with a increase in plasma spray coating thickness.
