Tempadex^<[○!R]>, a disposable chemical indicator developed as thermometer for body temperature for clinical and daily use by Organon Teknika Co., was studied "in-vitro" and "in-vivo" concerning its accuracy and practical availability."In-vitro" accuracy which was tested in comparison with mercury in glass thermometer in a warm bath whose temperature was kept constant at 38.0±0.05℃ after one hour warm-up, revealing an average of 38.05℃±0.0513℃ in mercury thermometer and 38.2℃±0.0158℃ in Tempadex. "In-vivo" tests were also compared in both, selecting the measuring points at axilla and oral cavity in admitted patients in the hospital. Inspectors were alternately changed in reading the temperature. No significant difference in the reading of alternated inspectors was observed. There was no singnificant difference between measurements by Tempadex for 45 seconds and mercury thermometer for 5 minutes in case of oral cavity. In axilla, also, no significant difference observed between the two. Difference of the reading was not also noted. However, results of the measurement in the axilla and oral cavity showed a significant temperature by 0.2 to 0.3℃, higher in oral cavity than in axilla, coinciding with the traditional experiences. These results described above indicates that Tempadex is a useful, accurate and practical device for clinical and daily use as body temperature thermometer.
