The Role of Clinical Engineering Technologist for Home Mechanical Ventilation in Japan

Since the home mechanical ventilation therapy has started in 1975, the number of patients has continued to increase in Japan. They said that the quality of life of these patients, who must have been hospitalized for mechanical ventilation in the past, has remarkably improved. However, the close cooperation of medical personnel (physicians, nurses, clinical engineering technologists and so on) related to this therapy is essential to the provision of the safe and effective home mechanical ventilation therapy for patients and their family. We think that the clinical engineering technologists play an important role in making this therapy safer and more effective from the engineering point of view. We are going to introduce the role of the clinical engineering technologists for home mechanical ventilation in Japan.
