The authors build upon a HDI model including intermolecular forces to parametrically study dynamic instability. The effects of the following parameters governing the HDI are addressed : (1) intermolecular force, (2) air bearing stiffness, (3) air bearing damping, and (4) disk topography. Based on these studies, air bearing and disk topography design guidelines are outlined to maximize HDI stability due to intermolecular forces.
