HDI-05 Local deformation, crown change and their influence on slider flying performance

This paper reports results of further study of the data writing induced nano-deformation of slider body and flying height change of the head-slider. The work reported focuses on computer modeling of the relationship between local protrusion and nano-deformation of slider body, caused by writing induced internal heating, and flying height change of the head-slider. Results on how to reduce the flying height fluctuation caused by such deformation will also be presented. Work also extends to the optimization of slider ABS design so as to achieve both low flying height and high flying stability.
