HDI-01 A MESH-FREE METHOD FOR NUMERCIAL SIMULATION OF HDD SLIDER AIR BEARINGS

In this paper, a mesh-free numerical method (least square finite difference scheme) is presented to solve the slider air bearing problems of hard disk drives. For each specified attitude, the air bearing pressure is obtained by solving the generalized Reynolds equation using the mesh-free method. The method with second order accuracy directly approximates the derivatives in the differential equations. The discretized nonlinear systems of equations are solved by Successive Over-Relaxation (SOR) implementation. Finally, the steady-state flying attitude of a slider subject to pro-applied suspension force and torques is obtained by a Quasi-Newton iteration method.
