Hard disk drives have crosed the 90,000 tracks-per-inch mark in year 2002 without using the much desired dual-stage actuators. In this paper, we will discuss some possible problems facing the servo system design in servo track writer for achieving narrower than 5 micro-inch track width. Problems such as feedback information configuration, control system structure, servo problem formulation, and servo loop shaping, will be discussed.
