Main Towers of the Akinada Bridge (suspension Bridge whose center span = 1,175m) are about 120m high. Because of its height, vibration of tower due to wind could not be controlled by selecting optimal cross-section, and were controlled by Damping Devices installed not only during construction, but also after completion of construction. As one of the damping devices, HMD (Hybrid Mass Damper) was used as well as TMD (Tuned Mass Damper). The H^∞ control theory was adopted to the HMD. Effect of the HMD and robust stability for higher modes were evaluated through vibration test. This report outlines design on vibration control devices of the tower with vibration test results.
