During the past six years, we have conducted a series of experiments using MBARI's ROV technology to study several of the modes of ocean CO_2 sequestration, such as mid-water releases of rising droplet plumes, deep-water releases near neutral buoyancy, and benthic releases in both shallow (600m) and deep (>3000m) water. These initial small-scale experiments have focused on observing the physical and chemical behavior of liquid carbon dioxide in a cold, high pressure environment where clathrate hydrate formation is thermodynamically favored but where actual experiences in limited. Video high-lights from a variety of experiments will be presented.
