• The peak stress in shafts containing transverse holes and subjected to tension is analyzed by means of MSC/PATRAN ADVANCED FEA The shafts are of 10mm diameter with transverse holes of 3mm or 5mm diameter. The stress concentration by elastic analysis with 3mm hole occurs in the bore between the edge of hole and center of shaft and at the edge of hole with 5mm. The peak stress by elasto-plastic analysis is in the bore of the center of shaft.
