Current competitive pressures on power plant owners are encouraging them to undertake more cost-effective maintenance programs using strategies based on risk rather than time-based approach. The Risk-Based Maintenance (RBM) is a program that has been specified on the basis of a systematic risk for a failure in each plant component. The RBM approach was developed by the American Petroleum Institute and has been applied to petrochemical and petroleum refinery industries. To apply RBM to power generating boilers, we developed risk analysis methods for a) creep damage, b) thermal fatigue, c) corrosion fatigue, d) pitting corrosion, e) corrosion/erosion, f) stress corrosion cracking, and used RBM approach for the evaluation of a risk in boiler component.
