The geothermal energy will be more and more important, since it is a "clean energy" which is renewable and scarcely emits carbon dioxide as compared with the conventional fossil fuels. On the other hand, the geothermal fluid contains a large quantity of corrosive substances such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, chloride and sulfate, which occasionally cause the corrosion-related problems. Therefore, the evaluation of the corrosion resistance of the applied materials is indispensable for the economical and effective utilization of the geothermal energy. In this work, stress corrosion cracking of the blade and rotor materials for geothermal steam turbines were investigated in the accelerated corrosive environment of the simulated geothermal condensate with the hydrogen sulfide, and sulfate. Corrosion fatigue tests were also carried out for the blade materials. The essential results of the corrosion tests are summarized in this paper.
