Firing of co-pulverized coal with wood biomass in coal fired boiler is thought to be one of the best solution to utilize the energy from wood biomass as carbon neutral fuel. Therefore co-pulverizing and co-firing tests were conducted at the pilot scale test facilities in order to clarify its possibility. Pulverizing of wood biomass was performed by feeding it into a vertical spindle type mill up to 3% by weight together with coal, and it was successfully performed with some increase of power consumption of mill. Combustion test was conducted with pulverized fuel obtained, resulting in a good combustion efficiency and low (NO)_X emission. As the result, co-firing with wood biomass by a few percents in pulverized coal fired boilers is attainable with minimum installation of additional equipments.
