Combustion of pulverized coal is experimented on the experimental furnace. Swirl burners are installed on the front wall and the back wall of the furnace. Heat output of the experimental furnace is 0.7MW. The coal is lean coal produced in Tongchuan, Shaanxi province of China. Three values of swirl intensity of swirl jet of burner are tested. Temperature distribution on the furnace walls and temperature distribution in the furnace are measured by thermal couples. Then the temperature deviation coefficient is calculated from temperature field. According to the results, temperature distribution is very complex in furnace with swirl burners. And the complexity is caused by complexity of flow field. Because cold air jets of burners cool the front wall and the back wall, the average temperature of the front wall and the back wall is lower than that of sidewalls. But the temperature deviation coefficient of the front wall and the back wall is greater than that of sidewalls. Because sidewalls receive more radiation heat flux from flames, the average temperature of sidewalls is higher than the front wall and the back wall. The temperature distribution curve on centerline of sidewall has two peak values. And in a short distance, there is a big change of temperature which value is about 200℃ on centerline of sidewall. These results must be considered in design of water-cooled wall of large boiler. The value of temperature deviation coefficient of furnace exit is about 0.04∿0.05. This value is less than that of tangential fired furnace.
