A brief survey of the literature on heatrate monitoring is presented first. This is followed by basic definitions and the principle behind the output/loss method. The underlying principle of the recently developed real-time heatrate monitoring methodology is presented next. Some results from field tests are finally presented. The first set of results addresses the issue of the effect of errors in the values of key parameters used in the calculations on heatrate and boiler efficiency. The next set of results compares the real-time heatrate values with "standard" values obtained from field tests which included careful collection of coal and ash samples. The results indicate that the recently developed real-time heatrate monitoring method gives results with good accuracy.
