602 Mechanical and Fatigue Properties of Magnesium Alloy Die Castings

Magnesium alloy die castings is recently applied to many fields including even automobile parts under cyclic high stress. In this work mechanical and fatigue properties of magnesium alloy die castings AZ91D and AM60B are investigated by tensile test, fracture toughness test and fatigue crack propagation test. Metal flow and solidification process of the materiel in staircase cavity is also examined by FEM calculation method. It is shown that analysis of metal flow is important to evaluate mechanical properties and quality of magnesium alloy die castings.
