This article investigates the optimum switching frequency (inversely proportional to cycle time) of closed cycle, two bed adsorption cooling system for different physical conditions of adsorbent bed heat exchanger. In general, the optimum switching frequency (cycle time) depends on the requirements of COP and cooling capacity. In the present study, COP and cooling capacity have been maximized numerically to determine the optimum switching frequency, w_<opt>. This paper also deals with the investigation of heat exchanger design parametrs on the optimum system performances (COP and cooling capacity). The results show that the heat exchanger design parameters such as adsorbent NTU, bed Biot number Bi, the heat exchanger aspect ratio Ar and inert material alpha number, α_<m-a> have influential effect on the system performances as well as on the switching frequency. It is also seen that for a given set of parameters, the system has an optimum switching frequency. The system performance may be declined seriously if the system is not operated at optimum switching frequency. The optimum switching frequency as well as the optimum system performance increases with the increase of NTU, Hr, and with the decrease of Bi, Ar, α_<f-a> and α_<m-a>.
