For design optimization of a MH refrigerator which is consisted of two cylindrical reactors filling with two different kinds of MH, a numerical model based on the thermal diffusion equation including heat generation due to the chemical reaction is proposed in this paper. By this numerical model, the dynamic characteristics of MH refrigeration system are well described. In addition, the influence of operation conditions, effective thermal conductivity of MH alloy bed and reactor diameter on the refrigeration performance of this system are clearly described. Finally, based on these simulation results, the heat transfer enhancement experiment by mixing carbon fiber in cylindrical reactor which filled with the MH alloy is conducted. As the best result, 3 mass% mixing carbon fiber data are four times larger than those of the pure MH alloy bed.
