"Color layer method" is one of the flow visualization method to measure the velocity of the flow. In the color layer method, a light source whose color gradually changes in the depth direction of camera view is used. By using the color layer, a three dimensional velocity distribution of the flow can be obtained from only one camera setting. The colors of the tracers in the flow on the image give the information of these positions of the depth direction of camera view. In this report, three examinations of velocity measurements with the color layer are carried out, those are (1) laminar flow in a tube, (2) turbulent swirling flow in a tube and (3) in-cylinder flow of model engine. Consequently satisfactory results of flow velocity are obtained from these experiments.
